Dazzle the District with PlayhouseSquare

It's almost time! PlayhouseSquare is just days away from dazzling not only the district but the entire city when they flip the switch on the GE Chandelier this Friday. The inaugural lighting of the world's largest outdoor chandelier is the finishing touch on the year-long transformation of the theatre district and will literally illuminate the revitalization that has taken place in the surrounding area.

PlayhouseSquare is known for throwing a pretty fantastic party or two and this will be no exception. They are closing down the streets and have planned Dazzle the District, an incredible soiree for the entire city.

The party starts at 5pm when the district comes alive with happy hours, commemorative cocktails and live music. Hot Chelle Rae will be on hand at 8:30 to kick off the grand lighting ceremony with the iconic chandelier being lit at 9:30.

What You Need To Know:
Dazzle the District will take place (in true Cleveland fashion) rain or shine.

The event is FREE & open to the public - no ticket required.
Event Entrances: E. 13th & Euclid, E. 14th & Prospect, E.17th & Euclid, Huron Rd. at Star Plaza & Euclid Ave.

Food & Drink: All theatre district restaurants & bars will be open. Each will be serving "The Dazzler", a special drink available for purchase in a light-up commemorative cup. E. 14th St. will house "Taste of PlayhouseSquare" with restaurant stations & beverage stands. Additional beverage stands can be found on Euclid Ave & Star Plaza. Tickets will be required for the outdoor food & beverage stands & can be purchased at designated ticket booths on E. 14th St. & Star Plaza. Tickets can be purchased with cash or credit cards.

Parking: Keep in mind that the PlayhouseSquare parking garage will be closed as well as the surface lot on Euclid & E. 17th St.

What you can & can't bring: No chairs or blankets. Bags & backpacks are not permitted. Small purses and diaper bags are allowed but will be subject to search.

Watch how this all came about in the #DazzleCLE "Making Of" special:

When I walk through the theaters of PlayhouseSquare, my face smiles with pride and my heart expands with love. I'm so excited that the beauty within has exploded into the streets and will dazzle for decades.

20 Years of the Silver Spoon Awards

Tickets are available now but did you know that every year they hold a kickoff party and sell them at a discounted price? Last year's presale was held at Hodge's and this year they kept the Driftwood love alive with a happy hour presale at Cibreo. Along with the usual Cibreo assortment of incredible nibbles (their cheeseboard and meatballs just make me swoon) we enjoyed happy hour drink specials, raffle prizes and discounted event tickets. Be sure to mark your calendar for next year.

the Cibreo board gets me every time
This year I'm super excited, not only because they are holding it at Zack Bruell's new event space at 200 Public Square but because it is the 20th Anniversary of the Silver Spoon Awards Party! Twenty Years!

To celebrate, I'm giving a pair of General Admission tickets away to one lucky reader.

Your Weekend Made Better: Dante Next Door

Hello lovelies! Wasn't this weekend just pure perfection? Spring had arrived and some 70 degree weather was just what was needed to bring everyone out of hibernation. That's why this current cold snap will not get me down. Saturday, the husband and I met Jen & Matthew out at Dante Next Door to preview Chef Boccuzzi's newest Tremont addition. The food was incredible and I think I woke up on Sunday still full from Saturday Brunch.

The new space (literally right next door) is bright and airy with the same warmly infused vibe as Dante. The stunning glass light fixtures lend itself well to the rustic space, giving it just a hint of refinement. The main attraction is the two stone pizza ovens that have been built into a brick wall and are surrounded by a bar where patrons can enjoy the show during their meal.

Being that this was a friends and family preview, we were encouraged to try a bunch of different things off the menu to get an idea of what they have to offer. Those pizzas beckoned us, I'll tell you.

clockwise: Capricciosa pizza w/ ham, mushrooms, tomato, mozzarella / charred tiger shrimp & polenta w/ peperonata, chorizo, scallion / pasta carbonara fritatta w/ spaghetti, pancetta, eggs, parmesan /
Broken Egg pizza
w/ lake erie goat cheese, asparagus, peas, morels
The Broken Egg pizza was divine and the tiger shrimp polenta was to die for. Next time, I'll be ordering one not to share. Sorry, not sorry. We also enjoyed the crab cakes benedict (amazing) and the Everything Bagel & Lox pizza. Since we arrived after 2pm we steered more towards the "lunch" side of brunch but after getting a taste of their blueberry sausage links, I can't wait to come back and try their french toast, pancakes and waffles. Everything is made in house from pastries to sausage and their eggs are organic, hormone-free and sourced through Fresh Fork Market.

clockwise: box of pastries / nutella pie / lemon trio
I'm not one to go to brunch and order up pastries but after trying these, I'm hooked. Dirt bombs, nut rolls and chocolate croissants? Count me in. My entire table nearly lost their mind over the nutella pie and while they were distracted (just not a nutella girl) I devoured the lemon trio, consisting of the most glorious lemon gelato I've ever tasted.

Matthew, Chef Dante & the Husband
Dante Next Door is open for Brunch Sat-Mon 10:30am-3pm and for Lunch Wed-Fri 11am-4pm. The service and staff are spot on, gracious and exactly what you've come to expect from Dante's restaurants.
Be sure to drop by this Friday, the 18th, for a Grand Opening celebration where you can try their fantastic pizza at no charge from 5-10pm.

My weekend was also made better because I got to check out Jen's impending new addition.

There's a baby in there!!!

The remainder of the day was spent at Banyan Tree and Wine & Design before I realized I had not been day drinking in quite some time and needed a nap. Do you remember what it feels like to nap with the window open with a warm breeze? Heaven I tell you.

top hat ice bucket from W&D / the husband thinks Jen's baby needs a
squirrel puppet / adorable toddler bow ties from Simple Hands at Banyan Tree /
outdoor drinking (finally!) and amusing wine boxes

Sunday was spent celebrating Jen and showering her with everything needed for baby. Well it looked like everything. I don't think I've ever seen so many gifts at one time! Let the nesting begin....

::Disclosure - We were invited to a preview of Dante Next Door and all food was complimentary. As always, all musings are my own::

Uncommonly Good Gifting

Remember the days of the catalog? It would come in the post and you'd tear out or dog ear all your favorite things? Now you can just scroll through on your phone or iPad and pin all those same items. I used to get the post, sift through the mail and pile the magazines and catalogs on a side table. But there were always those few that I just had to devour immediately, flipping to see what was new since the last one. UncommonGoods was one of those for me. Always something different, something handmade, something that you couldn't find just anywhere. Before there were local artisans setting up shop on etsy there was UncommonGoods. This was the first place I went to when I needed a special gift. Looking back, I think I gifted myself just as much as I did others, so when the people at UncommonGoods contacted me asking if I'd like to review one of their products I nearly squealed with delight. I have an arsenal of favorites from them and some new things I was dying to get my hands on.

UncommonGoods stemless peacock wine glasses; online and at home
I took them up on their offer and ordered up the stemless peacock wine glasses. At $49.95 for a set of four, they'd make a fantastic housewarming gift but I'm keeping them all for myself. They are quite a bit larger than your typical stemless glass and their subtle weight paired with the etching of peacock plumes make them elegant-yet-fun at the same time.

UncommonGoods is the place to go for unique gifts for men, women and kids. From personalized prints to jewelry and home decor, there is something for everyone on your list. They are committed to offering merchandise from artists to small suppliers that make their products in a more socially and environmentally responsible manner. Most of the products they carry are created in the USA and one-third of their collection incorporates recycled and/or upcycled materials. Through their Better To Give program, they donate $1 from every purchase to charity.

Picking favorites is easy for me and, believe it or not, the picks below have been heavily edited. There are so many things I love that it was hard to narrow them down.

Housewarming / Entertaining

literary coasters / branch skewers / slang flashcards / appetizer platter / confetti wine glasses
bicycle glasses / neighborwoods map coasters / under the influence glasses / serving board

For Him

bookend lamp / dog blueprint / airplane cocktail shaker / wine tote / copper mug / anchor corkscrew

For Her - check out their wide array of jewelry including unique earrings and bracelets.

stacking ring / links of love necklace / horseshoe pendant
be the change necklace / golden path earrings

animal alphabet / skyline of love / wedding waltz
intersection of love / building blocks
