The After-Party Is Where It's At

Next year, can we just live broadcast the Vanity Fair Oscar Party? Because that's always where the fun seems to be happening. The dresses are better, the Dom is flowing and everyone is looking fab, relaxed, and ready to party.

All That Glitters - Academy Awards 2013

That's it. The final touches have been put on this years awards season. While there wasn't a ton of color, there was MAD sparkle. And drama. On the red carpet and off. Let's get to it, shall we?

Best Dressed

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture

Also Stunning

Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive / Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille / Kerry Washington in Miu Miu

Stacy Keibler in Naeem Khan / Naomi Watts in Armani Prive / Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab

The Woman Who Can Do No Wrong

The Anne Conundrum

Why, you ask, would Rachel Zoe put a sure-fire Oscar winner in this pale pink, backless, '90s inspired Prada gown? Well, just blame Amanda Seyfried. Anne was all set for weeks to wear a Valentino gown from the Spring 2013 collection. This was confirmed at around 3:30pm. When the image of Seyfreid's Alexander McQueen dress was leaked, Anne apparently called Zoe in a panic to pull dresses for a replacement thinking the McQueen and Valentino gowns were too similar to be worn on the same red carpet. I do understand the panic of the moment, but I'm still incredibly underwhelmed by the substitute made.

Kitty Says What?!
Not the worst dressed of the night but...

Kelly Rowland's body is wicked amazing but I don't need to see every. single. curve.
Not sure why but Sally Field's dress is making me angry.
Why does Melissa McCarthy insist that due to her size, she must wear a shapeless bag?

What were you smitten with?

It's Time! Jump Back Ball 22

Today is the day to 'Jump Back 2 Spaces' and get yourself all dolled up for PlayhouseSquare's biggest gala of the year.

Hot pink accents courtesy of Lip Tar in Anime and Sephora by OPI in Access 24/7.
Glittery jewels, shoes and black lace overlay dress.

I'm a huge fan of "shopping your closet." All year long I keep an eye out for things that I've fallen in love with and snatch them up when they go on sale. A floor length gala gown at J. Crew or Nordies can often be had for well under $100. Dresses for other events can be had for under $50 on sale at Banana and Ann Taylor. So during the year I collect. Dresses, shoes, jewelry and accessories. That way I'm never stuck having to run out and find a dress for a wedding or particular event. A well-stocked closet is essential, just like a well-stocked pantry. You'll be ready for anything at a moments notice and never have to be running around trying to find the perfect shoe. The best part? My entire ensemble for Jump Back Ball has cost me only $35 since I had practically everything already. Score.

Get your glam on and see you tonight!!

::Disclosure - As an official Jump Back Ball blogger I'm receiving a free ticket to the gala and I purchased one for the Husband. I am also a PlayhouseSquare Partner and member of the social committee::

Get Your Glow On At Bluemercury

Luxury skincare, haircare, beauty products, gifts and samples abound!
I'm not a facial kind of girl. I used to think I was. I would go in with hopes of supple, clear, refreshed skin and come out with red, splotchy skin that would break out for days on end. I tried, but it just wasn't for me. "You have to go on a regular basis" my friends would tell me. But I could never quite get over the fact that I was spending money to have my skin look worse, not better, and I just couldn't get past the 'purge stage'.

Last November, Bluemercury asked me to come in for a complimentary facial and I was excited. If there was any company I would give one last shot to, it was Bluemercury. I had already been into their newest (and only Ohio located) store at Eton Collection in Woodmere back in September to stock up on my favorites that I used to order from their website. I was quite intrigued and thought I'd give it a go. But scheduling conflicts prohibited me from getting an appointment right away and I finally made it in last week. Only I would take 3 months to schedule a facial. Turns out, they wanted to get me in to see a particular esthetician and we both had off on Sundays and Mondays.

I arrived on a Wednesday morning ready for my treatment. I was immediately greeted and whisked away to relax and change into a robe, towel and slippers. I was instantly put at ease with questions about my skin type, concerns and expectations for this facial. Pampering, relaxing, exfoliating and nourishing, please!

I received the You Glow Girl Facial and let me just tell you, it was SUBLIME. The facial started with a precleanse followed by a thorough cleanse, steam cloths and extractions. Applications of their signature M-61 Power Pro Peel and Fast Blast Mask, Vitamin-C serum treatment and oxygen therapy. In between all of this I was coaxed into massive relaxation with heated spa table and numerous, glorious massaging of my shoulders, neck, arms and hands. I was so relaxed by the end I was nearly unconscious.

This woman was an angel. Sent from the heavens. My face was not red and splotchy. It was even-toned, firm and, shall-I-say, positively glowing. I couldn't stop staring. After I made my way back into the retail store the entire process was explained to me. I was still in awe of my supple, radiant skin and couldn't stop staring at any mirror I walked passed.

Days later I noticed that my skin never went through that weird purge stage that left me with breakouts I didn't have to begin with. I have found my holy-grail facial and I will definitely be back.

In the mean time I scooped up the M-61 Fast Blast Mask to use at home in between treatments.

Not only do they have an array of facials for every skin type, they also offer waxing, brow styling and massages.

Once you get your skin in order, be sure to check out all the fantastic beauty and skincare products they carry. I really appreciate that all store associates are highly knowledgable in the products they carry (unlike some other beauty retailers).

Midweek Morsel - Pork With Peanut Sauce & Rice Noodles

Happy Wednesday everyone! This Valentine's week is just flying by. This week's morsel is adapted from Cooking Light. They are a great resource for quick, healthy meals and I find that I am always finding new favorites on their site. There are quite a few ingredients to this one. Don't let that intimidate you. It all comes together surprisingly quick.

Pork with Peanut Sauce & Rice Noodles

What You'll Need:
1/2 cup boiling water
1/4 cup reduced-fat peanut butter
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced ginger
2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon chile paste
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
4 (4-ounce) boneless pork chops or 1 pound pork tenderloin, trimmed and cut into 1/2 inch strips
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 pkg rice noodles
1/2 cup sliced scallions

To Make:
Combine first 11 ingredients (through cornstarch) in a bowl, stirring w/ a whisk. Set aside.
Heat olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over med-high heat. Add pork and pepper. Cook 6 mins or until pork is done. Add peanut butter mixture to pan, stirring to coat. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 minute.

Prepare rice noodles according to package directions. Add noodles to pork mixture, tossing gently. Top with scallions.

I used these fresh rice noodles I found at Trader Joe's.

This recipe would also work well with chicken, beef or rice instead of noodles.

Pretty In Love

valentine's beauty

Who says you need a valentine? Treat yourself (or a friend) to a pretty pick-me-up this year.

On a sidenote: Happy 9th Anniversary to my fantastic husband. Love you madly..

Happy Monday, dolls. Hope you all have been keeping warm and snuggly so far in the winter wonderland that is February. Here are the things currently occupying my mind.

Spring has sprung at J.Crew. Check out the 2013 Spring/Summer lookbook here.

Josie Maran's Argan Infinity Cream is my newest addiction. The creamy-oil-balm is 99% natural and can be used just about everywhere on your person. Think of it as argan oil on-the-go. I use it the same way I use Aquaphor but I love the added argan oil benefits. It is sublime as a moisturizer under eyes, on lips, elbows, hands and knees and can offer up an unparalleled glow when dabbed on your face as a dewy highlighter. Transform any powder makeup into a cream by mixing this in.
Argan Infinity Cream $28

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar is now available at Sephora and comes in a pouch with a lip brush. The brush is imperative when applying this insanely pigmented gloss that dries to a satin lipstick. Put this on and you're solid all night. Just beware: a little goes a long way and it can stain fabric so use caution when applying. Essential oils make this super comfortable to wear and it's cruelty free and vegan.
OCC Lip Tar $16

Cannot. Wait. for these guys (and Mad Men Mondays) to return.

I never got around to wearing my Neiman Marcus x Target Robert Rodriguez dress over the holidays, so I'll be wearing it to PlayhouseSquare's 22nd annual Jump Back Ball. I have quite a few more formal options in my closet but I'm really feeling like this short, flirty party dress will be perfect for dancing all night long.

Sunday night perfection? Destiny's Child. Totally worth a power outage.
