Zoya Monica & Essie Recessionista

Hope this post finds you all getting settled into fall. With sweaters, boots, harvest beers and football. Naturally, my hot pink and neon polishes have made way for a plethora of plums, oxbloods, navy blues and greens.

Essie Recessionista & Zoya Monica

...but first, I have a winner for the Rolling on the River giveaway!!!!

Congrats to Lee who left this comment:
Lee M       Roulette! Gotta love the wheel!
You can still get tickets to this great event and be sure to use promo code: SMITTEN2012 for an add'l $5 off the ticket price.

Monica is part of Zoya's NYFW F/W 2012 collection and it's pretty incredible. So far I've scooped up every color except Evvie. They are all opaque creams and those are my weakness.

Recessionista is part of Essie's Fall 2012 collection, Stylenomics. I'm love, love, loving this as well as Stylenomics and Head Mistress.

For years I was a die hard Chanel Vamp or OPI Lincoln Park After Dark gal during the cooler months. That's it. No messing around. These two colors are similar variations of those so I'm still in my comfort zone. Trying out the greens and bolder reds are proving to be much fun, though.

What are you loving so far? Sticking with the usual? Trying something new? Let me know!

It's that time. My heart is palpitating and it's practically a holiday up in here. Anyone who knows me personally knows I'm obsessed with All Things Stefani, more specifically, No Doubt. Over ten years and 8 children later they are finally back with a new album. Cheers!

A Cocktail To Celebrate Autumn

::enter to win 2 tickets to the Hunger Network's 10/5 fundraising gala, Rolling on the River, here::

Happy Fall everyone! It's here. One of the most wonderful times of the year.

So while you're getting those boots, scarves and jackets out, treat yourself to a little autumn spirit. Perfect for long, snugly evenings and some much needed down time with friends and loved ones.

I think Autumn Spice is the perfect blend of ginger and cider with a hint of lemon. They are pretty lightweight, meaning you can sip them all day or night. (Or add in a bit of bourbon for a little more kick.)
This can be served hot or cold or you can even make a non-alcoholic version for the little ones by swapping out the Domaine de Canton for a little ginger-honey syrup.

Honey-Ginger Syrup
Add 1 cup honey and 1 cup water to a saucepan and bring to boil.
Remove from heat and stir in 3 tablespoons chopped ginger. Let cool.
Strain out ginger and chill.

I'm pretty obsessed with all things ginger and Domaine de Canton is a standby in our house. This cocktail recipe and many more can be found on their site.

Foxy Lady

::enter to win 2 tickets to the Hunger Network's 10/5 fundraising gala, Rolling on the River, here::

{Most Wanted: The Fox - Tory Burch}

Autumn is mere hours away and I'm in a bit of a fall frenzy. Or should I say, fox frenzy. (And I'm not talking about the fur, although that is always welcome in my wardrobe.) As September rolls on I'm becoming more and more obsessed with woodland creatures and it's now invaded my closet.

I'm a grown woman. Is there any need for me to wear a sweater with an animal on it? It started with this Madewell sweater. Then J.Crew and those damn fat hens with the little berets. By the time Burberry and Tory came out with their fox collections, I was beyond hope. I'm powerless against the lure of the fox.

The husband tells me there's little difference between wearing a sweater with a fox on it and a bad reindeer christmas sweater. I digress.

 4. fox ring $59 / 5. kissing fox belt $150 / 6. fox studs $14 / 7. foxy sweater $83

What do you think? Either way, if you see a redhead about town on an aqua city bike and fox print skater dress, that'll be me.

Beef Short Ribs & Mushroom-Port Ravioli

Beef short ribs are a mainstay in our household. Used in tacos, flatbreads, with polenta, pasta or simply on their own, it's a surefire way to right whatever wrongs occurred in your day. I slow cook mine with a mix of beer and red wine and usually throw it over a little pappardelle.

This week I had some ravioli from Ohio City Pasta on hand. One of my favorites is their Mushroom, Port Wine & Blue Cheese and it served to be a decadent addition to the dish.

Starting with my usual recipe,  I seasoned and browned the beef before adding the wine and beer. When it's finished I reduce the braising liquid and topped the ravioli with the short ribs, a bit of the reduction and some sauteed cremini mushrooms. The ravioli is a perfect accompaniment with it's earthy mushroom flavor and hints of blue cheese and sage.

This is a wonderfully hearty fall dish that makes everything right in the world...if just for one night. Pair it with a great bottle of red or a yummy autumn beer. I enjoyed mine with a maple bourbon cider. Just because :)

Looking Back On Locavore

{Last day to enter my Hullabaloo VIP giveaway!! Contest closes tonight, Thurs 9/13 at midnight and I'll be announcing a winner tomorrow. Good Luck!!}

Last Friday I had the privilege to attend Locavore, held at Windows on the River. The evening was filled with local food, wine, music and inspiration all lovingly donated with proceeds benefiting the Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the MS Society.

Lilly Handmade Chocolates rocked it out (as always) with their Autumn & Winter Bark along with some special treats created for the event. "Say Cheese" was a savory nibble pairing a white chocolate, bleu cheese ganache with apple reduction cider, walnuts and milk chocolate. Figaro is a favorite of mine with black mission figs, port, vanilla bean and roasted cashews enrobed in dark chocolate. I may or may not have filled my purse with extras of these.

Lilia and her lovely husband Todd from Indulgence Cakes were on hand with chocolate baklava and the most delightful carrot cake cupcakes. I ended up grabbing a plate of these for the table and proceeded to eat them all. Do you see a pattern here? "Cannot be trusted around treats" should be tattooed somewhere on my person. Indulgence Cakes prides themselves on creating custom desserts and pairings, so ring them up if you're in the market for something you can't find just anywhere. They will sit down with you and come up with a plan to wow your guests!

Other notable bites included calamari salad from Corleone's, tempura shrimp from Nosh and just about anything from Momocho with their mole sauce.

The wines from Maize Valley were a perfect addition to the food and they had something for everyone.

I ate, drank, laughed and teared up as my good friend, Charlene, introduced this years Individual of Inspiration award to her long-time best friend, Adam Riedy.

right-The ghost of Mark Zinni running interference...

There were raffle prizes and a silent auction along with a Blind Wine Pull. I think Kelly Ann and I did pretty well on our pulls.

It was a fun night filled with even more shenanigans than usual thanks to one fantastic emcee - Mark Zinni. I'll be putting Locavore on my calendar for next year!

::Disclosure - I was provided one ticket to this event c/o the MS Society in return for promotion. I had so much fun I will definitely be purchasing a ticket next year!::

The latest round of The Shops at Target hit yesterday featuring Kirna Zabete, the Curiosity Shoppe, Odin New York and Patch NYC. I was a bit underwhelmed a few months ago when I saw the preview but I did spot a few great finds when the entire collection was released.

Kirna Zabete is just not my taste and while I've purchased womenswear from Target, I haven't purchased menswear, (other than the occasional T-shirt) so I kind of skimmed the Odin collection. I fell madly in love with everything Patch NYC and some charming vintage-y picks from the Curiosity Shoppe.

4. rainbow straw & swizzle stick set $10

I"ll be scooping up embarrassing amounts of these Odin candles to scatter throughout the house.

glass candle - woodsy $16.99

Kirna Zabete might not be my favorite designer collab but there are a few finds.

1. sleeveless maxi dress $49.99
2. tie front blouse $26.99
3. tweed/faux leather dress $44.99

I'm now impatiently waiting for more peeks of their next collab with Neiman Marcus which will hit just in time for the holidays. Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the CFDA this will feature 24 CFDA designers including Derek Lam, DVF, Tory Burch, Tracy Reese, Rodarte and more.
