Table 45 - Blast From The Past Dinner

A few weeks ago it was my friend Charlene's birthday. She wasn't excited about this milestone and insisted on telling all of us it would be 'her last one'. But then something strange happened. She started getting really lucky. Lucky like scoring tickets to the Rock Hall Induction Ceremony, having a long fabulous weekend of celebrating with the best of friends and winning Table 45's Blast From The Past contest.

She was done. Seriously, the next logical step was for her to play the lottery. The windfall came my way when she asked me to be her date on Tuesday. Uh, YEAH. I'm there! Now I'm the lucky one.

Table 45 is probably Zack Bruell's least visited restaurant by locals. We're spoiled with Parallax in Tremont, everyone loves L'Albatros, Chinato on East 4th and his newest gem, Cowell & Hubbard. I for one, always overlook Table 45 since it's connected to the InterContinental and Cleveland Clinic. But it just might be his best.

The concept of the contest was to pick your favorite dish from past years/menus. Winners were picked at random and treated to a multi-course best-of dinner. At the Chef's Table. There were 4 winners and each could bring one guest.

I'm not a food writer, so here's my pictorial recap. Girl About Cleveland was there, so be sure to head over and read her recap. It will have your mouth watering

Not only was each course better than the next, and paired with wine, but we had wonderful dining company. Great conversation ensued as we realized we all follow each other on twitter. There were many inappropriate food tweets that evening that may or may not have included a smoked sea salt smelling like 'sexy man'. Ideas about a summer backyard potluck from the lovely Cara and her husband Jeff. But the best moment of the evening came when Chris asked if they still did the scotch egg to which the Chef replied that they did and could we hang out for a bit while he fired one up. So even though we were all beyond stuffed, no one was passing up a taste of that lamb chorizo scotch egg.

It was an exquisite evening and I cannot wait to get back!

A huge thanks to Charlene for bringing me as her date, Chef Screnk and Table 45 for a lovely evening. I'm quite the lucky girl.

If you flat iron your hair you need to be using a quality product. You might be able to skimp on some other tools but you cannot skimp on this. Mad Men Monday - Swedish Meatballs & Moscow Mules

Happy Monday Kittens!

This week it was Swedish Meatball time. I found this recipe a couple of years ago. It's really one of the easiest dishes to make (other than the time it takes rolling the balls). You can do it ahead of time and the sauce takes literally 5 minutes to put together. The recipe I linked to makes 2 batches so you can freeze half or serve it all if you're having a party. Nothing says party like a meatball. Cocktail meatballs, italian meatballs, greek lamb balls or these Swedish balls. I love them all.

I went with an easy simple dress, (yep, the same one I wore for my birthday) threw the hair up and added some fun earrings. A moscow mule and the party was on. The husband even started a round of 'Zou Bisou Bisou'.

Birchbox Sample Closet & April 2012 Box

A few weeks ago I received an email from Birchbox with a promo code to "shop the Birchbox Sample Closet". Spend $125 and pick 10 deluxe samples or $150 and pick out 15 samples. This was perfect since I had an order in mind (and $30 in Birchbox points to redeem). I placed my order and a week or so later received an email saying I could go online and pick out my 10 samples. So imagine, you could make your own insane Birchbox of everything you wanted! There was a list of about 80-100 samples to choose from.

Can you tell I love Kerastase? I was finally able to get my hands on some of the items other girls were getting in their boxes that I was coveting. Like the cashmere shampoo. No, I'm not crazy. This is the awesome $18 cashmere shampoo they sell at J. Crew. You can't dry clean it (you know how I love a trip to the cleaners) and I'm practically inept at doing laundry (just ask the husband - I'm constantly flooding the cellar) so I'm going to try and hand-wash said cashmere in the sink. With a cocktail in hand. And some $18 detergent.  What could possibly go wrong?

Anyway...this was a blast and thanks Birchbox! I hope they keep fun surprises like this coming.

Moving on to April's Box. Ah the Earth-friendly box. I remember last year's box not being one of my favorites, so this year my expectations weren't that high. But I was pleasantly surprised. Other than the perfume (which I seriously can't take any more of) and the argan oil (I've already found my Holy Grail oil, so I'm really not interested in trying any more) I really liked everything else.

Excited to try:

I was thrilled to get a treat from Benta Berry! This uber gentle skincare brand has made it's way from Paris to the States and I've been dying to check it out.

As a girl who is terrified to go to bed with her makeup on, having an extra set of cleansing towelettes at the ready is a must for late nights when you're too exhausted to wash your face. I'm excited to try these out and I like that they aren't exfoliating.

I don't wear foundation, just tinted moisturizer. I've never used a mineral one but I like the idea of a primer and SPF in one.

Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia. Even though the majority of people with this disease are over the age of 65, this IS NOT a normal part of aging. It is a disease. There is currently no cure, but treatments are available and research continues.

Blondes vs Brunettes has come to Cleveland to help raise money for the Alzheimer's Association. BvB CLE is a Powder Puff Football event that takes place June 16th on Krenzler Field at Cleveland State University.

Are you just loving this season of Mad Men or what?! I don't know if it's just that I've missed them so or if this season is just really good so far. Either way, I'm having a blast. This week I decided to go post-WWII with dinner making Chicken Kiev and creamed spinach. I used panko in lieu of regular breadcrumbs, added in ramps to the butter compound and browned the chicken bundle on the stove, then baked in the oven (rather than fry the whole time). It was delish and quite fun to make.

I don't dress like this every day, but the husband does. (He probably wishes I did, though!)

It is a moving and inspiring piece watching Nary Manivong go from homeless and living on the streets to making his dream of designing clothes a reality. High Tea With Burberry At Saks

Tuesday afternoon, Burberry and Saks Fifth Avenue teamed up to offer a close up look at the latest arrivals in their Prorsum, London and Brit collections. And what better way than with a spot of tea.

Tea and coffee were served as well as an array of delicate finger sandwiches, fruit and pastry. I could have nibbled all day. That is, until the fashion began. I quickly lost interest in food altogether and just wanted to try everything on. Local and national Burberry representatives were on hand to give us an up close look into all the latest, answer any questions and teach us how to tie the "Burberry knot" on our trenches. We were also informed that they are discontinuing the Nova Check print handbags in favor of all the other 'checks' (haymarket, smoked, house etc). These should be out of stores by January 2013, so if you have your heart set on one, it's best to scoop it up as they will not be releasing any more in that print.

I fell in love immediately with this dress paired with the tribal clutch.

A great day-to-night option with a hint of sass with that exposed zipper.

The gathering and keyhole on this dress were superb and I love the slit with a bit of length. This just floated across the room.

Pictures don't do this jacket justice. It was an incredible work of art and paired nicely with a silk blouse and great fitting pants. If you haven't tried on pants by Burberry, they all have a hint of stretch giving each a 'spanx like' fit.

Hands-down favorite of the day. Nothing like a black leather pencil skirt paired with a casual olive cropped trench.
