I Apologize In Advance (Gaga - Vanity Fair)

Let me just take a minute and apologize for yet another Gaga-related post. I just couldn't help myself after seeing the photoshoot Annie Liebovitz did with The Lady for Vanity Fair's January issue.

Check out this amazing (nude) photo of Gaga here. (Didn't want to post it and offend anyone) Forget those Victoria's Secret models, I'll have what Gaga's having!

And let's talk about her gorgeous fashions as of late! I started swooning over her Chanel dress for the Barney's opening and about lost my mind when I watched her Thanksgiving special.

OOTD - The Grand Canyon

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being on a layover at the Grand Canyon. Going into this I was intrigued. I'm not a really big nature girl (unless it involves snow) and unlike most people I know, this wasn't on my bucket list. But, when in Rome, right? I was anticipating being dropped off in the desert, not in a crisp tree and snow-filled winter wonderland. Oh, I could get very used to this!

The problem was in the packing, as in 4 days I would be in Dallas, the Canyon, Las Vegas and San Diego - with one carryon. There was lots of layering, tanks under shirts, under sweaters, under blazers, under scarves. That could all be paired down as the temperatures went up. I brought 1 pair of jeans, flats and heels, yoga pants and pajamas. (Well, and 10 pounds of jewelry, but that's another post entirely.)

Outfit of The Day

sunglasses - LOFT
blazer - Gap
scarf - Gap
cardigan - H&M
ballet flats - Sam Edelman
clutch - vintage Gucci
gloves - Target
jeans - J Brand

There is no railing or barrier preventing you from flinging yourself right into the canyon. And our tour guide was lovely enough to tell us that the best-seller in the gift shop was the book Over The Edge: Death in the Grand Canyon, which gives "gripping accounts of all known fatal mishaps". Thanks.

Emerging Chefs Prohibition Dinner Party

one of my favorite shows, Boardwalk Empire {via}

Sunday, December 4th, Emerging Chefs is back at it with their 2nd annual Prohibition Dinner Party. If you missed last year's event (held at Speakeasy) like I did, you'll want to jump on this one which is happening at one of my all time favorite spots, Nighttown.

{via}

From their site:
"Step back in time and join us for a night to remember in the historic "member's only" Music Room of Nighttown Cleveland Heights.
Together, we'll toast the 78th Anniversary of Prohibition's End, thumb our noses at the Volstead Act and dine on recreated meals (with a twist) from our past. Each course will be paired with a timeless cocktail and polished off with an authentic music score from days gone by.
Dress for the occasion as we highlight not only the Chefs but also the Restaurateur. Our Master of Ceremonies will be none other than Brendan Ring - fun-loving proprietor of Nighttown - who will capture the spirit of the occasion with his Irish Brogue and outlandish stories.
Join us for a classic adventure amid a jaw dropping art collection and soulful venue, and stake claim to your own little piece of the "Jazz Club"."

Tickets are $75/ea. and $85 for the Owner's Table.

Here  are the highlights from last year's event:

Holiday Happenings

Happy Thanksgiving my lovelies! By this evening I will most likely be slightly buzzed and quite unwilling to move off the couch. The best remedy for this is to get a good night's sleep, skip the black friday craziness at the malls and big box stores and get out and enjoy the wonderful holiday events going on in our own backyard. So just say no to the chains and Eat, Drink & Shop local!

Thanksgiving - Essential Tools

Can you believe Thanksgiving is this week already? It seems by the time Halloween hits us, the next 2 months fly by and it's a whirlwind of planning, prepping and partying. Here are my can't live without tools to make your Thanksgiving just a bit easier.

Large Non-stick Roaster (Crate & Barrel $69.99) - Perfect size for a medium to large bird. Non-stick interior and removable rack allows you to lift the bird out easily, put the pan over two burners and make the gravy right in the pan.
Gravy Separator (Williams-Sonoma $28) - You've got to strain the fat somehow before making gravy and this is the best strainer I've had over the years. The fine mesh strainer, heavy duty rubber lid and glass carafe can just be tossed into the dishwasher. The glass is flameproof, microwavable, freezer and oven safe.

Thermometer with Probe (Target $19.75) - Stick the probe in the bird and set the unit on the stove. Easily set temperature and or timer and it will notify you when done. Magnetic back ensures no sliding around the stove.

Turkey Lifters (Crate & Barrel $12.95) - Nice enough to be seen and super inexpensive. These will ensure your bird doesn't land on the floor when you take it from the roasting rack to platter or carving board.

Potato Ricer (Williams-Sonoma $29.95) - If you've never used a ricer for mashed potatoes, you don't know what you're missing! This produces the fluffiest, airiest potatoes. This model features 3 adjustable blades (fine, med, coarse) and is perfect for mashed vegetables too. Just pop in your cooked potatoes and squeeze. Dishwasher safe.

Glass Refrigerator Dishes (Crate & Barrel $6.95-$19.95) - A lot can be made ahead and these, available in multiple sizes and shapes, are perfect for pre and post-Thanksgiving storage.. They can also be used when transporting dishes and then sticking right into the host's oven.

Shellac Decadence & OPI Gel Color Sighting

Decadence is the latest Shellac color I've tried. In the bottle it looks like quite a deep red but in real life it's a perfect classic red. Quite fun and suitable for the holiday.

extreme close up anyone?

When I got to the salon I already had my heart set on a red or possibly a brighter purple. Imagine my surprise when Sarah (my wicked amazing manicurist) shows me 3 bottles of the new OPI Gel Color! We ooohed and ahhhed like it was a new baby. Right now they only have 3 colors (Strawberry Margarita, My Private Jet and Bogota Blackberry). She said they'd have more in by the time I saw her next. The bottles look exactly like the original OPI polishes except the main bottle is black instead of showing the color.

So if you'd like to try them out head over to Dep Nails Salon in North Olmsted.

I'm currently obsessing over ...love Maegan's midnight purple nails with gold glitter.

one day I will learn how to take fancy photos like this :)
Head on over to her page to see how she did it!

The Well Dressed Man & Banana Republic Holiday Ad Campaign

There's something to be said about a man with style.  His own style.
I'm not a fan of finding a great guy and dressing him. Women seemingly love to do this. (I know I'm gonna get some flak for this).
I'm not one of those girls. Nope. See ya. Do not apply. There's a lot of single women out there and good men are hard to find. I get it. But finding a great guy with bad style and putting him in something you want him to wear is not the answer. They never quite seem to pull it off. You can always tell. It's a bit awkward. It just makes him a guy wearing nice clothes. Not a Well Dressed Man. Now, this doesn't mean he has to have it all together. There still needs to be a certain polished ruggedness to it. Otherwise we'd be shopping with him, not sleeping with him. Finding a guy with his own sense of style (and I don't mean game day jerseys, sweats or free t-shirt giveaways), now that's a find.

This thought was brought about by the latest ad campaign by Banana Republic. The husband made a purchase a few weeks ago and they sent along a coupon (of course!) with the latest holiday images.

isn't he darling?

I will now make believe that this is the husband and I and we are off to
a lovely holiday soiree.
And yes, I will be recreating all these holiday looks (for myself, of course.)

love a man in a scarf!
